Back to school blues...

You hear about the seasons of motherhood.  You experience them.  But when the seasons change, it takes a while to adjust.  That is what I am discovering this week!!!

Both girls are in school as I type.  And no, we did not homeschool again...sniff, sniff.  It was a fabulous year last year, but we felt the Lord leading us back to the school my oldest had attended for K and 1st. We wanted our youngest to have those special Kindergarten memories.  And our oldest honestly missed the daily interaction with her classmates.

So here I am, in a new season.  Both girls in elementary.  And...I...feel...lost!

Last month was eight years since I quit my public, full-time job to devote myself to being a "stay-at-home-mommy" or a "homemaker" as others call it.  Somedays I felt like an unpaid maid, or unappreciated cook, or a sort, wash and fold launderer.  But, I was first and foremost a wife and mommy!  And I love it and am thankful for it!

Now with several hours alone, the silence that I sometimes craved is deafening...

I'm praying about the next steps, but for now, we are focusing on a great school year and getting into a good routine.  Our theme verses for the year includes the one in the post below.  Every morning we repeat that we are going to "walk worthy and with joyfulness".  It has gotten us off to a great start!

Col 1:10-11

 10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness

For my girls that love the bling, I made these sweet bracelets to wear these first few days.  It has been so comforting...even for this lonely mommy!  They are simple clear plastic bracelets from the craft store that I decorated with stickers and permanent markers!

Here are two bracelets
One for you and one for me
We will wear them today
And know that we’ll be
Thinking of each other with lots of love
And knowing God is watching us from above
So have a wonderful day
And when you look at your wrist you will know
That I am so proud of you and love you both so!

Have a wonderful first day – KISS KISS HUG HUG

Count Down

The count down is on for the end of the year!  7 more lessons to go!  Woo Hoo!  I cannot believe how fast the year flew, but yet how long some of the days were!  Not sure what we are doing yet for the next school year, but we know the Lord will show us clearly in His time.

This month is crazy with soccer finishing up, dance recital, and preschool graduation.  The icing on the cake for all our hard work is heading to Disney World at the end of the month!  We are sooooooo excited!

Would I do this school year again?  Definitely without a doubt!
Would I have done anything differently?  Definitely without a doubt!

This was a lot of trial and error, but when we got into a rhythm, we really got the hang of it.

Some of our favorite things...

- Pond Field Trip
- 100th Day of School
- Friday trips to Sheetz for icees
- Co-op
- Bible time
- Singing time
- Being together
- Days when we finished early

Things I would do different...

- Have more fun days
- Be more relaxed if we get off schedule
- Do more experiments
- Blog more ;-)

I don't know what next school year holds, but I look forward to having a big third grader and an official Kindergartner.

Birthdays and Snow Days

We are stuck inside with frigid cold temps and ice outside.  Here's what we've been up to...

My oldest celebrated her 8th birthday on Valentine's Day (sniff sniff)!

We started 2 weeks in advance by counting down.  I glued 14 little cups to a piece of poster board.  I filled with small treats for the girls to enjoy after dinner for the two weeks leading up to the big day.  This was fun and I didn't have to answer the constant question, "Mommy, how many more days until my birthday?"  They could just go and count the cups that were left.  Which sometimes they did count more than one time a day!  So cute!

We made a beautiful 3 layer chocolate cake covered in gummie butterflies for Macie's birthday.  We were so excited when we found the butterflies.  The icing was new and perfect!  We made a simple glaze icing of powdered sugar and vanilla and milk and folded it to a tub of cool whip.  We kept the cake refrigerated, and it was scrumptious!

With all the leftover gummies, we of course ate some, but we have also carried out a few experiments.  It has been a fun few days, but I do hope we can at least adventure to the library tomorrow!

Stay warm!  Check out Mansion Moms for some yummy soups to help with fight off the cold!

100th Day of School

We've made it through 100 days of homeschool!  100 days of lessons.  100 days of joy...well, maybe not always joy, but we're all 100 days smarter!

My daughters have been looking forward to this day since Christmas break ended.  And, I believe the day has not disappointed...

It started with a 100 themed breakfast featuring mini pancake muffins, grapes, and a book about the 100th day of school for each daughter.  It brought lots of smiles.

We had a treat of 100 Grand bars (one of the most awesome candy bars ever), and dad had hid 10 more around the house to find.

We made 100 shaped glasses, and 100 celebration ribbons.

Our doorway was decorated (which may stay up until the end of school because it has been loved so much!)

We asked questions like would you rather have 100 books or 100 friends?

We've counted 100 beads, completed 100 exercises (like 10 jumping jacks, 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, 10 kicks, etc.) and completed a fill in the blank story about 100.

It has been a blast and a day I'm hoping they never forget!

So here's some ways to celebrate 100...rather it really is the one hundredth day of school, or just because 100 of almost anything is pretty cool!  There are lots of fun things on Pinterest too.  So many activities, it would take 100 days to complete them all!  Pick some faves and just make it fun!

100 is awesome!
